William Wayne Mains, Sr., 72, of Colora, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, with his beloved wife and twin daughters, April and June by his side.
Born on April 17, 1953, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Bill was the son of the late Ruthie May Phillips, who sadly passed when he was just seven years old. He was lovingly taken in and raised by Ralph and Flo Mains, who provided him with a stable and caring home.
Bill was the devoted husband of 40 years to Alice Wilma Mains (maiden name Owens), with whom he built a life centered around love, family, and simple joys.
He dedicated 20 years of service to the former National Vulcanized Fiber Company of Pennsylvania, and after its closure, spent another 23 years working in maintenance at Union Hospital. Known for his friendly demeanor and strong work ethic, he was well respected by colleagues and always ready with a kind word or helping hand.
A man of many interests, Bill found joy in woodworking and restoring furniture, taking pride in breathing new life into old pieces. Bill spent many selfless hours volunteering for Union Hospital and doing community work while volunteering for the Rising Sun Church of Nazarene. He was a proud and loyal member of the church. He loved attending classic car shows, and over the years, his compassion for animals led him to care for numerous beloved cats and dogs.
He was actively involved in his children’s lives, spending 15 years in 4-H activities and serving as an assistant Little League coach. Above all, Bill cherished his family and took pride in their accomplishments and milestones.
He will be remembered for his warmth, strength, and deep love for those around him. His legacy lives on in the family he nurtured and the lives he touched.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Alice Mains; his twin daughters, April Walters (husband Lee) and June Reeves (husband Steven); his son, William Mains Jr.; his grandchildren: Thomas Reeves, Daulton Foster, Feather Walters, Gabe Curran, Amber Walters, Johnny Reeves, and Emily Reeves; and his great-grandchildren: Rowan Reeves, Axtin Leitch, and Atlas Leitch.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
