Our Story

A legacy of service.

R.T. Foard is recognized for their caring service and innovative thinking in Cecil County, Maryland as well as Newark and New Castle Counties in Delaware. Over the years we’ve expanded our service offerings and locations to better serve families, offering them more ways to honor their loved ones.

Our legacy started in 1959, when Robert T. Foard, Sr. was a funeral director of the Pippin Funeral Home in Elkton. He and the funeral home owner decided to convert the Foard Brothers Hardware Store into a full-service funeral home, serving the families of Chesapeake City.

Robert Sr. went out on his own in Chesapeake City in 1968. In 1970, he purchased Reed Funeral Home in Rising Sun, Maryland, which is the current location of the R.T. Foard Funeral Home on 111 South Queen Street. In 1979, his son, Robert, Jr. decided to join the family firm and in 1985 they bought McMullen Funeral Home and transferred the business to the 111 South Queen Street location.

The company expanded to bring its services to more families in 1990, when Robert, Jr., purchased another funeral home from Robert T. Jones in Newark, Delaware. Then, he opened a banquet facility out of the Rising Sun location, so families in the area can have a special meal or reception together after the service. Most recently, an on-site crematory was added in 2003 to better accommodate those families that prefer cremation.

Fifty years after Robert Sr. left The Pippin Funeral Home and went out on his own in Chesapeake City, Robert Jr. purchased the Gee (formerly Pippin) Funeral Home in Elkton to enable the organization to serve the needs of our Elkton families.

Today, the funeral home operates four locations and maintains a proud tradition of service to the people of Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
