William Richard Coleman, age 89, of Newark, DE peacefully went to be with the Lord on Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in 1926 in Person County, North Carolina to the late, William Harrison Coleman and Olvie Blanche (Ellington) Coleman.
William served in both the U.S. Navy and Army; he was a WWII veteran and U.S. Army retiree. He also retired from AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, Newark plant. He was a member of the Heritage Presbyterian Church and the Newark VFW, Post 475. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and life member of Matanuska Lodge No. 7, Palmer, AK. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored.
William, widower of his loving wife of 65 years Delores C. Coleman, is survived by his daughters: Catherine D. Zinszer and her husband, Ralph of Newark, DE, Pamela E. Sapp and her husband, Jay of Winston-Salem, NC, and Roberta C. Taylor and her husband, Robert of Newark, DE; grandchildren: Sandra Zinszer Bell, Kelly Zinszer Ryan, Jessica Sapp Williford, Olivia J. Finley, and Michael Leo Taylor; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in William’s honor on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 2:00PM at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. Family and friends are to meet at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 at 1:00PM to leave in procession to the cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 4:30PM at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 140 Old Airport Rd, New Castle, DE.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Salvation Army” and sent c/o the funeral home.
