William J. Krauss, known to family and friends as “Bill” or “Willie” of Conowingo, Maryland lost his battle to lung cancer, March 12th, he was 73. He was born in Rising Sun in the apartment above the old Western Auto, with his twin sister. A son of the late Wave Carter Krauss and Roman A. Krauss Sr.
He worked for APG for 35 years as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. When he retired, he worked several other places. But was last employed at Herr’s Snacks as a guard. He had 9 years there. Bill was a member of the Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church, and also a member of the Masonic Harmony Lodge 53. He enjoyed his mini farm and gardening.
Bill is the last of his family. He is survived by his wife, Judy L. Reedy Krauss, two sons: Larry W. Krauss of Conowingo, and Charlie M. Krauss and wife Amber of York, PA, 1 granddaughter, Olivia Krauss of York, PA, and one of his best friends, his Sheltie, Buddie.
His brothers, and sisters have passed; Nancy Gardner, Roman Jr. (Stevie), his twin Helen Herrington, and half-brother, Charles Cook.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 6-8 pm with Masonic Service at 7 pm at R.T. Foard Funeral Home – 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, Maryland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with a 1-hour visitation prior, at Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church – 1068 Chestnut Level Road, Quarryville, PA. Burial will follow in Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice or in his memory – stop smoking!
