Former Rising Sun resident William Jacob Graham (Jake), age 83, died peacefully on July 8, 2013 at Calvert Manor.
Born in North East Maryland and son of William C. and Bessie A. Graham, William was a 1947 graduate of Rising Sun High School and 1951 graduate of the University of Maryland where he played varsity baseball and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He earned a masters degree in Human Relations from University of Delaware in 1962. He entered the army during the Korean War and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. after completing officer training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He served with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in Korea where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He joined and ultimately retired from the Army Reserve with the rank of Major.
Bill worked for the Budd Company, located in Troy, Michigan, a ThyssenKrupp Automotive Co., in various executive positions retiring in 1997 as Corporate Director of Employee Development. He enjoyed poetry, sports, and Dewey Beach.
He is survived by his cousin Paula Senn of Conowingo, foster sister Isabelle and long-time friends Mary Betty Reynolds, Larry Grabowski, Gloria Kazarian, Betsy, John and David Taylor, Lisa Lowe, and John O’Neill.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 3:00 p.m, where guests need to be at the cemetery at 2:30 pm per requirement of the cemetery.
