William Ernest Simmons, Sr., age 64 of North East, MD, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Season’s Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. He was born on May 3, 1950 in Elkton, MD to the late Milford Benson and Liselotte (Stuber) Simmons.
A lifelong resident of the Elkton area, Bill served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War, and returned home and worked at the Chrysler plant in Newark, DE as a Millwright. He became the Local UAW 1183 Union Shop Steward, a position he held until his retirement. In his spare time, he was known for his breeding and showing of his beloved German Shepherd dogs. His greatest joy came from being a grandfather and uncle, spending time with the grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who enjoyed his love and generosity.
He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Giuliani and her husband Gregory of Elkton, MD; sons, William Simmons II, and his wife Michelle of Middletown, DE, and Samuel Simmons of Augusta, GA; a sister, Heidi Simmons-Scheppelmann of Perryville, MD; six grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Waltrude B. Jackson.
A service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, PA, 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to the service beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Elkton, MD.
