William E. Bland, 72, of Bear, DE, passed away January 4, 2015 at Christiana Hospital with his loving wife by his side, following a courageous battle with several illnesses.
Born in Newark, DE on November 20, 1942, Bill was the son of the late Ernest and Thelma Morrison Bland. He graduated from Newark High School, and devoted his life to serving the public in the Air National Guard and for the State of Delaware, working in financial management at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, as a life member of Aetna Hose Hook and Ladder and served on the Brookside Police Department. Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed his time at his family vacation homes at the beach and in the mountains.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marilyn Bland of Bear and his brother Ronald Cheadle and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services honoring his life will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday January 14, 2015 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 with a visitation beginning at 10:30 am. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and mailed to the funeral home.
