Walter Miles Rhodes, a pillar of strength and love in Rising Sun, MD, peacefully departed this world on April 15, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on September 2, 1951, in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, he was the cherished son of the late Miles Elsworth Rhodes and Pauline Virginia Rhodes (nee, Campbell). For nearly half a century, he was the devoted husband and partner-in-life to Eileen Dawn Rhodes (nee, Noonan).
Educated at Patterson High School in Baltimore, Walt’s career path led him to become a plumber at Noonan Brother’s Plumbing, where he proudly carried on the family legacy. His passion for mechanics and speed found expression in his love for race cars, which he collected, tinkered with, and drove with gusto. His garage was a treasure trove of automobiles, reflecting his keen eye for craftsmanship.
Beyond his mechanical pursuits, Walt was an avid collector of firearms and a staunch advocate for animal welfare. His compassion knew no bounds, as evidenced by his care for a thriving colony of stray cats, ensuring they were spayed and neutered. Dogs and cats alike found a friend in Walt, who showered them with affection and care.
Yet, amidst his myriad interests, family remained Walt’s greatest joy. He reveled in the laughter of his grandchildren—Matthew, Ryan, and Jagger—and cherished every moment spent with them. Family cookouts were not just gatherings but celebrations of love and togetherness, where Walt’s protective nature and unwavering strength shone through.
To his friends, Walt was more than just a companion; he was a loyal confidant and a fierce protector. His presence brought warmth and reassurance to those fortunate enough to know him.
Walt leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, embodied by his loving wife, Eileen Rhodes; daughters Michelle Krankoski (Dennis) and Lisa Rhodes; sisters Barb Leisner and Donna East; faithful dog, Kiber, and a host of relatives and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
A celebration of Walt’s remarkable life will take place on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with visitation starting at 9:00 AM. His final resting place will be in West Nottingham Cemetery, where his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
