Virginia Mary Loftis (nee Warren) went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 2nd at her home in Rising Sun, MD. She was 88 years old. She was the widow of Harold Lewis Loftis. They shared 63 years of marriage together.
Born in Bel Air, Michigan, she was the daughter of Gerald E Warren and Violet Warren. She had 4 brothers and 1 sister. Virginia enjoyed the freedom to explore the woods and lakes with her faithful dog, Herman, as a child in Bel Air. The family moved to Detroit and Virginia graduated high school from Eastern High School, now Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School.
Virginia was a woman of many talents. In addition to raising 4 little girls all born within 5 years she sold Tupperware then Rubbermaid, rising to management levels in sales in both. Later she graduated from barber stylist school and went to work in downtown Bel Air, Maryland. She went on to open her own barbershop, Top Secret Hair Designs, in Jarrettsville, Maryland. As her interests changed, she decided to become certified as an herbalist. She opened her own herb shop in Darlington, Maryland, called Natures Gifts. Throughout her life she maintained many hobbies including: creating paintings; making duck decoys; gardening; studying ancient history; raising chickens, goats, peafowl and many cats and dogs; following politics; and bagpiping. She said what she would like people to remember of her is that she was a ‘good kid’ and to remember that plantain (a native weed) can heal almost anything.
Virginia was a long-time member of the Church of Christ and attended in Aberdeen, Maryland and Shillington, Pennsylvania.
She will be remembered for her spicy personality, fearlessness in expressing her thoughts, and her creativity.
Virginia is survived by her 3 daughters, Esther Loftis Medina, Dr. Rebecca Loftis, and Debra Morgan; and by 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; daughter, Maggie; and by all her brothers and her sister.
