Virginia C. Samuels, age 81, of Rising Sun, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 13, 2013. Born in Rising Sun on May 21, 1931, she is the daughter of the late Jacob and Violet (Smith) Christie.
She served as a homemaker for her family from 1947 to 1957. In 1949, she graduated from George Washington Carver H.S. Virginia began her career at Chester County Hospital where she worked from 1965 to 1973. Due to health issues, she went to work at Cecil Community College in 1973 to work as a receptionist and continuing her education from 1973 to 1976 to earn her Associates Degree in Secretarial Management. Virginia retired from Cecil College in 1998 as an Assistant Instructor, but would often work part time for the college as needed.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a son Paul L. Samuels of Rising Sun, MD; brothers Everett Cooper of Eldersburg, MD, and Walter Cooper of La Crosse, VA; a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own; and many countless friends and neighbors.
She is predeceased by her husband Frederick; a son Frederick, Jr.; a daughter Angel Lynn; sisters Violet M. Lane, and Betty M. Cooper; and brothers Paul Christie, Harold Christie, Leonard Christie and Raymond Cooper.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Family and friends may visit 2 hours prior beginning at 12PM. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Fund c/o the funeral home.

Kind and considerate, Mrs. Virginia Samuels was always willing to lend a helping hand to students and employees of Cecil College. “Let me know if I can help you with something that's what I’m here for" are the kind words she would say to everyone. Years ago, she was instrumental in creating a scholarship to assist non-traditional adult students with their education. The scholarship was named the Virginia Christy Samuels Scholarship. She was reluctant and proud to have a scholarship in her honor. Mrs. Virginia always had a special place in her heart for all students …especially students who needed training to enter back into the workforce. Compliments from Mrs. Virginia were often and sincere. There are so many fond memories of Mrs. Virginia Christy Samuels. I will treasure the memories!
