Virdie Jeanette Brown, age 74, of Port Deposit, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home on December 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 11, 1951, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, to the late Edward Nicholas Bailey and Blanche Mae (Taylor) Wilkinson.
Virdie was small but mighty, a strong-willed woman whose presence could never be overlooked. She spoke her mind freely, stood firmly in who she was, and lived life unapologetically on her own terms. Though she could be sassy, her heart was full of love, loyalty, and kindness. She delighted in laughter, was known for her playful jokes, and kept her sharp wit right up until the very end. To know Virdie was to know honesty, resilience, and a spirit that was fierce and loyal.
She found great joy in crafting and had a deep appreciation for all things creative. Virdie loved collecting vintage fabrics, lace, and unique craft items, always imagining what beautiful thing they might become. Flowers and gardening brought her peace, and she took pride in creating lovely floral arrangements. She also enjoyed thrift shopping and bargain hunting, always determined to strike a good deal. With a notable sweet tooth, Virdie delighted in simple pleasures, including her favorite television shows—soap operas, Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother—which brought her comfort and enjoyment.
Virdie is survived by her loving daughters, Angela Bowers (Robert) and Deiana Christley; her foster son, Brian Way; her grandchildren, Corey Christley (Chelsea), Kyle Pitzer (Chynna), Morgan Christley, and Lily Gast-Woodard (Trent); her greatgrandchildren, Olivia Pitzer, Taylor Pitzer, and Ada Christley; and her brother, Donald Roland. She was deeply cherished by her family, who will forever carry her love and strength with them.
In addition to her parents, Virdie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Billie R. Brown; her brother, Michael Wilkinson; and her sisters, Sarah King and Deborah Williams.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to American Legion Post 135 of Perryville, Maryland, and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
Virdie’s legacy lives on in the laughter she shared, the beauty she created, and the unwavering love she gave to those fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
