Violet Shirley Powers, “Shirley”, age 93 of Rising Sun, MD passed away on October 14, 2016. She was born on May 1, 1923 in Ashe County, North Carolina to the late, Austin Green Roberts and Gertrude Dellafare (Gamble) Roberts.
Shirley proudly served her country as W.O.W girl at Triumph Power Plant in Elkton, MD during WWII. She was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, quilting, and being with her family.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Theresa Gorrell and her husband, Michael “Barry”; brother, John Roberts and his wife, Madge; sister, Mary Sexton; five grandchildren: Debbie Romich and her husband, Gary, Rob King and his fiancé, Susan, Eve Kozlowski and her husband, Joe, Adam Gorrell, and Austin Gorrell; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and one on the way; and son-in-law, Bobby King.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willard Powers; daughters: Margaret Goerlich and Clarrissie King; and brothers: Herman, Kermit, Paul, and Thomas.
A visitation will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 6 to 8PM. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at 11AM Saturday, October 22, 2016 at New Bridge Baptist Church, 37 Wyatt Lane, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10AM.
