Violet E. Montgomery, 91, of Rising Sun, MD passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family.
Born August 5, 1922 in Nottingham, PA, Violet was the daughter of the late Lewis and Myrtle (Grason) Jones. She is a member of Porters Grove Baptist Church where in years past she was active in the WMU and the choir. She owned and operated the Rock Springs Store in Rising, MD with her late husband, Ernest, for 20 years. She enjoyed puzzles, watching Jeopardy, cooking, poetry and shopping. However, the time she devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was the time she cherished most.
Violet is survived by her son, Glenn E. Montgomery and wife, Ruth Ann of Rising Sun, MD; four daughters, Gloria J. Massengill and husband, Alfred of Rising Sun, MD and Four Oaks, NC, Gail E. Frazier and husband, David of Rising Sun, MD, Gilda F. Anderson and husband, David of Rising Sun, MD, and Gena R. Vaughan and husband, Felix of Havre de Grace, MD; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her brothers, Steven A. Jones of Nottingham, PA and Fred Jones and wife, Doris of Rising Sun, MD. Including her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Montgomery who passed away in 1994 and five siblings, Alice Rentfrow, Everett, Atwood, Lester and Clifford Jones.
A service honoring Violet’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Pleasant View Baptist Church, 150 Downin Lane, Port Deposit, MD 21904, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Presbyterian Cemetery, Colora, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care or to Pleasant View Baptist Church and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.
