Tom Watson Stephens, Jr. (92) of Rising Sun, MD, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 21, 2023. Born October 1, 1930, in Colquitt, GA, he was the son of the late Lucy and Tom Stephens, Sr. and the loving husband of 30 years to Susan Bauguess Stephens.
Tom served his country honorably in the US Air Force. He was stationed with the 394th Strategic Missile Squadron at Vandenberg Air Force Base, helping to maintain America’s Nuclear Deterrent during the Cold War. He attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring in 1976. Tom was a true man of God deeply embedded in the service to his church as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon in his church for 67 years. He enjoyed Golfing, Bowling, working on Crossword Puzzles, watching Westerns Movies, listening to Southern Gospel Music and enjoying a “Snickersnack”.
His family remembers him for his sharp wit, compassionate heart and selfless nature. Above all else he was a loving husband, father and Pop Pop to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Stephens; son, Glenn Stephens; daughter, Debbie Stephens and grandson, T. J. McMillan
He is survived by his wife, Susan Stephens; three children: Wanda Maturo (Mike), Amy Bauguess McMillan (Jamie), Ron Bauguess (Traci); 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 12:00PM at Conowingo Baptist Church – 151 Rock springs Road, Conowingo, MD. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30AM. Burial will be in Conowingo Baptist Cemetery.
