Tom Banbury Martin of Newark, DE, age 90, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021. Tom was born on October 3, 1931 in Wabash, IN to the late Don D. Martin and Nellie Lucille (Banbury) Martin.

Tom was in masters swimming at the University of Delaware. He enjoyed tennis, golf, playing bridge and solitaire. Tom was a Director of Finance for the Newark School District. He was a member of the Newark Country Club and his name is on the wall at Newark Senior Center for helping open the facility. Tom was a former member of Elkton Presbyterian Church and helped in the outreach ministry. He also did dealer trades for various Newark car dealerships in his retirement phase.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou (Bowen) Martin; children: Bruce Martin (Colleen Murray), Deb Martin (Rich Schueneman), Carol “Pook” Cathell (Nick Fasois); grandchildren: Zachary Martin, Matthew Fernandez (Brooke), Kelly Loeffler (Andrew), Eric Fernandez (Amanda), Blake Kline, Tyler Beck, Cassidy Cathell (Jose); 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Shertzer and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom is preceded in death by his brother, Don “Mick” Martin.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may start visiting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately after at Head of Christiana Cemetery Newark, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Alzheimer’s Association” and sent in care of the funeral home.
