Thomas “Raymond” McMullen, Jr. age 75, of Newark, DE passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Christiana Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 29, 1937 in Newark, DE to the late Thomas and Lettie (Long) McMullen. Raymond was a graduate of University of Delaware where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Business. After college he worked for many years for Sheaffer’s Wallpaper & Paint and later Shinn Paints. Raymond loved the beach and was an avid surf fisherman; the Outer Banks of North Carolina were his favorite place to fish and spend time with friends and family.
Raymond had a number of hobbies, including a love of reading with particular interest in history, especially the Civil War. He also liked to travel and visit places where famous battles had been fought. Most of all, he loved to spend time with friends and family. He was Pop-Pop Raymond to his four grandchildren, the delights of his life. Raymond was also a member of the Newark Historical Society, Delaware Historical Society, Delaware Mobile Surf fisherman, Newark Anglers Assoc. and was a Mason with the Hiram Lodge #25.
He is survived by the love of his life for 52 years, his wife Jane S. McMullen of Newark, DE; son, Michael McMullen and wife Dolores Byrne McMullen; daughter, Michele Zonick and husband of John “Chip” Zonick; grandchildren, Tyler and Nathan McMullen, and Jacob and Jocelyn Zonick; sisters, Rose Ann Hastings of Laurel, DE, and Rae Brunansky of West Covina, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Vivian Timmons.
Services will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where friends and family may visit one hour prior to service beginning at 10AM. Burial will follow at Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark, DE.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to A.I. Dupont Children’s Hospital or Newark Historical Society c/o the funeral home.
