Suzan “Sue” D. Whiteman of Earleville, MD, age 77, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021. Sue was born on April 28, 1944 in Wilmington, DE to the late John Wharry and Ann (Trivits) Wharry.
Sue was a 1962 graduate of Newark High School. She then pursued her career in nursing and went to Wilmington Hospital to receive her license as a registered nurse. Sue also worked with her husband in their business, M.L Whiteman & Sons in Newark, DE. She coached tennis at St. Mark’s High School and field hockey at Newark High School. The most she enjoyed doing was being a mother and raising their children. Sue also enjoyed carving decoys, making baskets, and painting landscapes.
Sue is survived by her children: Michael Norman Whiteman and his wife, Emily of Warwick, MD, Daniel Martin Whiteman and his wife, Gina of Townsend, DE; brother, James Wharry of Delaware City, DE; and 7 grandchildren: Christopher Michael, Charlotte Kayla, Taylor Martin, Sawyer Matthew, Olivia Grace, Alek Wyatt, and Jaden Levine. In addition to her parents, Sue is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Whiteman; and son, David John Whiteman.
A memorial service for Sue will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may start visiting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately after at Ebenezer Cemetery.
