Emily Mae “Sue” Gibney, 80, a lifelong native of Rising Sun, MD, died at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center on Sunday November 25, 2012. She was the daughter of the late Marion T. and Arvilla Mae Terry White.
Sue was an original member of the American Legion Post 194, Rising Sun, MD. She worked at Montgomery’s Restaurant since the age of 15 and in 1985 she and her husband purchased it and renamed it “Sue’s Restaurant” where she continued to work as a cook and baker until 2003. Sue enjoyed all types of music, especially listening to her brother Lowell and his daughter Cheryl’s singing, BINGO, Rehoboth Beach stays, baking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, James W. Gibney; daughter Gerry Knotts of Rising Sun, MD; son Michael Ritchie and wife Kim of Elkton, MD; stepson Jimmy Gibney and wife Mary of Rising Sun; two grandsons, Allen Reed and girlfriend Cathy Weaver of North East, MD and Chris Ritchie and girlfriend Kristina McCoy of Elkton, MD; granddaughter Ashley Ritchie and fiancé Josh Boyer of Havre de Grace, MD; and one great granddaughter Brynlee Paige Ritchie. She is also survived by a sister, Audrey Rierson and husband Wilson of Monroe, GA; brother Lowell White and wife Pauline of Colora, MD, special friend and caregiver Faye Moulton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers Donald and Rodney White and sister Marion “Lib” Montgomery.
Services will be held at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 North Walnut St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Friday November 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Thursday November 29, 2012 from 2-4 pm or 7-9 pm, or one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Brookview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice or American Legion Post 194 Ladies Auxiliary c/o the funeral home.
