Stewart Wesley Gahagan, Sr., 81, of Elkton, MD, passed away October 13, 2012 at Union Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Conowingo, MD on April 19, 1931, Stew was the son of the late Cloy and Pauline Gahagan. He graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BE in Chemical Engineering. After working for Johns Hopkins University from 1953-55, he joined Mobay Chemical Co. (Monsanto & Bayer). From 1956-1972, he worked at a number of positions at Mobay, finally as marketing manager and in 1972, he accepted a position as Director of Marketing for McNeil Corp. In 1979, he moved back to MD and started a small machinery business and continued working until 2001. He and his wife, Nancy, sailed on the Chesapeake Bay for 20 years and travelled extensively during their retirement years. He was kept busy as well with his grandchildren and their various activities. A week ago, family and friends gathered and celebrated Stew and Nancy’s 60th wedding anniversary.
Stew is survived by his wife, Nancy Y. Gahagan; two daughters, Katharine Smith (Ray) of Cincinnati, OH, and Suzanne Mace (Jon) of Aptos, CA; a son Stewart Wesley Gahagan, Jr. (Sharon) of Elk Neck; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and his sister Joyce Crothers of Perryman.
According to his wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21911.
