Steven Phillip Purvis, age 76, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. He was born on February 26, 1946 in Keokuk, IA to the late Charles Crocker Purvis and Nannie Maude (Pence) Purvis.
Before retiring, Steven worked at Dupont as a computer data analyst, a skill he carried over into his love of computers. He was also very talented with his hands, using his woodworking skills to produce many fine pieces of furniture for family and friends. Steve also excelled at working with stained glass, building model cars and was an accomplished photographer. There wasn’t much of anything he couldn’t do if he set his mind to it.
Steven enjoyed riding his Harley and going to car shows. He was especially proud to show off his fully restored 1966 Chevelle SS396 as well as his Corvette and Mustang.
Steve was a Meal on Wheels volunteer and drove the shuttle for Christiana Hospital. Steve was always ready to help a friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was also a big dog lover and enjoyed spending time with a lot of dogs over the years.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Teresa Purvis of Newark, DE; and son, Stuart(Debra) of Lorain, OH.
A celebration of life will be held at 7:00PM on Friday, March 10, 2023 at R.T. Foard and Jones, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may begin visiting at 6:00PM. Burial will be held private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Delaware Humane Society” 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801.
