Shirley S. Weitz, 79, of Lewes DE, formerly of Newark, passed away December 31, 2013 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center in Rising Sun, MD.

Born in Wilmington, DE on July 18, 1934, Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy Scott. She retired from her career in product demonstrations. Shirley was an active and devoted member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. She loved the beach, was an avid animal lover and was an old movie buff. Shirley will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. The family is grateful to the owners and staff at Calvert Manor for their wonderful care of Shirley.

She is survived by her son, Chris S. Weitz of Millsboro, DE; her daughter, Lori J. Allan and her husband Donald M. of Lewes, DE; 9 grandchildren, Donald M. Allan, Jr. (Carrie), David C. S. Allan, Tiara Downer (Danny), Rachele Allan, William, Matthew, Nicole and Michelle Ryan, and Courtney Weitz; her daughter in law Norma Ryan and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Carl S. Weitz; her son, Michael Ryan and her daughter Lisa Jane Weitz and her grandchildren, Michael J. Ryan, Jr. and Shawn Michael Ryan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday January 6, 2014 at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Rt. 1 in Lewes, DE with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park in New Castle. Contribution checks in Shirley’s memory may be made payable to Calvert Manor Nursing Scholarship Fund and mailed to R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711.
