Shirley L. England, 76, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away peacefully at her home March 16, 2012 surrounded by her family.
Born in Auto, WV on March 12, 1936, Shirley was the daughter of the late Marshall Eugene and Ruth Lucille Johnston Gabbert. She started school at the age of 4 in West Virginia and graduated at the age of 16 from Rising Sun High School in 1952. Except for working at Bainbridge for a few years, Shirley began her career at the National Bank of Rising Sun at the age of 16. She worked her way up to an Assistant Vice President before retiring. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Community Fire Company of Rising Sun, sang in the choir at Janes United Methodist Church and was a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed playing Bingo. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and loving sister.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert England of Rising Sun; 7 children, Beverly Yale Farmer and her husband C. Richard of Port Deposit; Vincent Yale and his wife Susan of Colora, MD; Stephen Yale and his wife Sue of North East, Robby England and his wife Kathleen of Millerton, PA, Wm. Gerald England and his wife Lisa of Rising Sun, Diane England Ring and her husband Harry of Rising Sun and John England and his wife Jackie of Rising Sun; 17 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She also leaves behind her brother Patrick Gabbert of Auto, WV; and two sisters, Judy Johnson and her husband Kevin of Rising Sun and Linda McCummings and her companion Frank Paragallo of Rising Sun; and her lifelong friend Ruth Kester of Rising Sun. She was preceded in death by her brother James Gabbert and granddaughter Noelle Faith Yale.
A service honoring her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 20, 2012 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 1:00. Burial will be in West Nottingham Cemetery.
