Sean Michael McCollum, age 59, of Newark, DE, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Wilmington, DE on March 23, 1958 to Mary (Smolka) McCollum and the late John “Ducky” McCollum.
Sean attended St. Hedwig’s School and Conrad High School. He graduated from Delcastle Technical High School with an electrical apprenticeship. He earned his Master Electrical License and went on to successful employment with Lamanna Electric, Wyman Electric, and Delmarva Power. Sean went on to become sole owner of McCollum Electrical Services and Gentle Ben Electric.
Sean enjoyed many hobbies and past times. He loved deep sea fishing, motorcycles, boating, the beach and spending time at his Virginia house with family and friends. Sean also enjoyed cooking, his annual crab feasts and holiday dinners.
In addition to his mother, Sean is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Haass) McCollum; son, Shane Brandon McCollum; daughter, Shannon Kelly McCollum; grandsons, Barry Shea Layaou, Jr., six and John Richard “Jack” McCollum, nine months; granddaughter, Gianna Marie Flowers, five months; sister, Debragh McCollum Smith (Brian); brothers: Timothy McCollum (Phyllis), Matt McCollum (Danielle); his in-laws, Ron and Joan Haass; his friend, mentor and business partner, Sam Buccio ( Debbie); and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly.
An evening visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Deerfield Country Club, 507 Thompson Station Road, Newark, DE 19711. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 809 S. Broom Street, Wilmington, DE 19805. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
