Sarah May Nelson, age 95 of Newark, DE passed away on August 9, 2022. She was born on August 12, 1926 in Middletown, DE to the late Harry A. Smith and Margaret Desmond (Emerson) Brown.

Sarah met the love of her life, Francis Nelson when she was a teenager. They lived on adjacent farms and married when she was 16 and he was 20. They were happily married for 60 years and were completely devoted to each other. They were always by each other’s side whether that was going to the store for a quick errand or spending the day at home. Sarah was a great home maker; she canned vegetables from her garden and enjoyed crocheting.

Sarah is survived by her son, Wayne Nelson and his wife, Carla; grandson, Craig Michael Nelson and his wife, Julie; and great grandchildren: Addison Nelson, Audrey Nelson, and Benjamin Nelson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis Nelson; brother, Jack Smith; and stepfather, William Brown.

A graveside service will be held privately at Gracelawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “The Michael J. Fox Foundation” and sent in care of R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc. 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711.
