Ruth Wolfe Bounds, 88, died on Monday, January 27th. She was the only child of Maurice Isaac Wolfe and Eldred C. Wolfe. Born in Dallas, Texas December 29th, 1936. Ruth graduated from Westtown School in Westtown, PA, and later received her liberal arts degree from Merriam-Webster College in Washington, D.C. She was a talented stay-at-home mom for many years, joining the workforce in 1979 at Everything but the Kitchen Sink, The Enchanted Owl, and Bath, Kitchen & Tile. She retired in 1999 and took on her famous role of world traveler.
Ruth had a zest for life, and it took her to exotic places from the Arctic to Antarctica, the Pyramids of Egypt, jungles of Vietnam, the Great Wall of China, plains of Africa, and many more. Some of her favorite memories include an elephant ride in Thailand, hot air ballooning across the Serengeti, and exploring the Galapagos Islands with her granddaughter. She also made a special journey to Norway, reconnecting with her grandparents’ heritage.
Alongside her travels, Ruth was an avid tennis player where you could find her swinging a racquet at Barksdale park. Ruth also floated on the Chesapeake for 30 years in the family trawler. She also enjoyed trips to the beach at her condo in Ocean City, Maryland where loving memories will live on.
A devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, Ruth is survived by her children, Wallace M. Bounds (Annette), David W. Bounds, Lisa A. Blake, and beloved granddaughter Maggie E. Blake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband Wallace M. Bounds, and son-in-law Ron Blake.
Ruth lived life to the fullest. Ruth – Mom – Grammy, we will miss you. You will live in our hearts forever and ever.
A life celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 7, 2025, at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where family and friends may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. Burial will be held at Head of Christiana Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice.
