Ruth Elaine Holbrook, age 83, of Colora, MD passed away peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born in Baltimore, MD on August 18, 1942, to the late Charles Slicer McCardell and the late Ruth Margaret (Rawlings) Bouchelle.
Elaine was a devoted member of the Conowingo Baptist Church for over 60 years. She found great pleasure in teaching Sunday School, nurturing the spiritual growth of countless young children. Elaine was an avid crafter, sharing her talents and creativity with many through her renowned craft show on Boxwood Lane. She also enjoyed reading, often finding herself lost in the pages of a good book. Elaine’s love for flowers and gardening was a passion she shared with family, creating countless cherished memories together. Family was important to Elaine, and she found immense joy in helping plan weddings within her family, ensuring each event was a reflection of love and unity. She had immense love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in the joy they brought her.
Elaine dedicated her life to her family, church and work, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and creativity that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Elaine is survived by her husband of 64 years, Spurgeon Lee Holbrook, Jr.; son, Gary (Tamara) Holbrook; daughter, Lynn (Brian) Logue; grandchildren: Brian (Lachelle) Logue Jr., Brandon (Nicole) Logue, Tedd (Allison) Holbrook, and Evan (Erin) Holbrook; great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Haylie, Brielle, Jackson, Liam, Brandon, Jr., Mason, Millie, Lucas, Marigold, Theo, Logan, and Evelyn; siblings: Vickie McCardell, Ann Harvey; and Kevin McCardell; sisters-in-law, Patricia McCardell, and Mary Jane Rogers; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Elaine is preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Fox” McCardell.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Conowingo Baptist Church, 151 Rock Springs Rd, Conowingo, MD 21918, where friends and family may begin visiting at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to “Conowingo Baptist Church” and sent to the church.
