Roy Lee Bright, 91, of Colora, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born on November 29, 1933, in Kerens, WV, he was the beloved son of the late Lenzy Thomas Bright and Leona Maude (VanScoy) Bright.
Roy grew up in the quiet mountain town of Kerens, West Virginia, where he graduated from Elkins High School. Roy went on to further his education and skill by attending Lumber Trade School, focusing on Inspector Training at the National Hardwood Lumber Association in Memphis, TN. He dedicated over 30 years of his life as a Construction Foreman for Bojan Construction in Washington, DC. His work ethic was unparalleled; he was a proud, hardworking individual who approached every task with a practical and down-to-earth attitude.
Roy had a profound love for baseball, often reminiscing about the games he played and his tryout for a Major League team. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and gardening, and proudly claimed to grow the biggest and best tomatoes ever. In his downtime, he enjoyed watching his favorite television programs, including the news, the “O’s”, civil war history shows, true crime programs, Jeopardy, and The Price is Right. Music was another of Roy’s pastimes, he enjoyed listening to classic country tunes often saying today’s country isn’t “country”.
Family was everything to Roy. He held a close bond with his sister Opal and brother Darl, along with his niece and two nephews, creating cherished memories filled with laughter and love. Roy enjoyed telling tales from back home, captivating his family with stories of his youthful escapades, including riding the train to town and interacting with the World War II soldiers camping in the area.
His gentle nature and ability to connect with animals, particularly cats, earned him the affectionate title of “cat whisperer.” He was known for his kindness, honesty, and quiet personality that radiated warmth and strength. Roy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever cherish the memories they created together.
