Roy Homer Hanna, Sr., a dedicated Construction Supervisor A at Del Construction Company, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, at the age of 80, in Middletown, DE. Born on August 18, 1943, in Newark, Delaware, he was the cherished son of the late Elwood Marshall Hanna, Sr., and Ellen Hanna (nee, Dehorty).
Roy was a Construction Supervisor for A-Del Construction Company. He dedicated his career to the challenging craft of construction, overseeing projects ranging from roads to bridges across the Mid-Atlantic Area. His commitment to excellence was unwavering, leaving an indelible mark on the infrastructure of the region. Even in his final days, he remained devoted to his work.
Beyond work, Roy found joy in vintage automobiles, spending his leisure hours tinkering with and restoring old cars. An avid fan of classic country music, he could often be found swaying to its melodies on the dance floor. Roy’s magnetic personality drew people to him effortlessly, earning him a vast circle of friends affectionately known as his “Fan Club.” Known for his boundless generosity, he was always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Roy will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
He is survived by his son, Roy Hanna, Jr., his daughter, Carol Lynn Hanna, grandchildren: Roy Hanna III, Ryan Hanna, Chris Hanna, Lindsay Hanna, Lindsay Moore, and Donnie Moore II, great-grandchildren: Gavin Hanna, Grayson Hanna, Adaline Hanna, Jackson Hanna, Mason Hanna, Madeline Hanna, Maverick Hanna, Charlie Hanna, Shelby Hanna, Brysen Arnold, Brooklyn Moore, and Donnie Moore III. He is also survived by his sisters, Dorothy Clancy, Alise Collins, and Nancy Hanna, as well as his brothers, William Hanna and Allen Hanna; and long-time girlfriend Beverly Nesper.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his son, Donald Hanna, and his brothers, Elwood Hanna, Jr., Edwin Tex Hanna, and Frank Hanna, Sr.
A visitation to honor Roy’s memory will be held at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, located at 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware, on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will follow on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 11:00 am, at the funeral home, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service. Roy will be laid to rest in Gracelawn Cemetery, where he will continue to reside in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
