Rose Patricia Brown passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2026, after a fall at her home.

Rose was born on May 28, 1930 in Elkton, MD. She was the daughter of Lorenzo and Mildred (Watson) Alagia.

Rose graduated from Immaculate Conception in Elkton, then went on to attend Mater Misericordian Academy boarding school, a finishing school for young ladies, then graduated from Saint Elizabeth High School in Wilmington DE class of 1948.

Rose continued on to graduate from Cecil College being a member of Phi Theta Kappa, National Honor Society. She also graduated from Wilmington University with a BA in Behavior Science and then Washington College in Chestertown, MD with a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Education.

Rose was a lifetime member of the Immaculate Conception Church. She was a strong advocate of Cecil County’s senior population and worked for years for the department of Aging (Upper Shore Aging). Rose was not only a benefit entitlement specialist for the senior population, but she founded the first Alzheimer’s Support group for Cecil County in 1987. She also headed a Bereavement Counselling group at that time.

Rose was a Psychotherapist who worked in that field for over twenty five years. She was licensed by the Maryland State Police and was certified as an expert witness in a Court of law. Having her Master’s degree in Education, she also worked for the Cecil County Board of Education for over 15 years as a full time substitute teacher for elementary schools and did private tutoring for students in her home.

She held the position of secretary for the Cecil County Chamber of Commerce while her husband Daniel James Brown Sr. held the position of Director and then President of the Chamber for a number of years.

Rose held the position as a Social Worker for Laurelwood Rehabilitation Center for a number of years.

Rose was involved in a great deal of volunteer work and was a member of Singerly Fire Company’s Ladies Auxiliary. The ladies from all the Fire Companies in Cecil and Harford Counties were a great support over the years and Rose enjoyed their company.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, best friend and companion, Daniel James Brown Sr. whom she married in 1950.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Margaret Kaplow, Loretta Hislop, Mary Maloney Wilson and Lorenzo Alagia Jr.

After the death of her beloved cousins: Theresa D’Azevedo, Elizabeth Sentman and Mary Etta Carter, Rose’s health began to deteriorate due to missing their company and their weekly phone calls.

Rose is survived by her son, Daniel “DJ” Brown Jr. (Patricia), daughter, Daria V. Brown, granddaughter, Danielle G. Brown, (Jacob Schumen) all of Cecil County, MD; grandsons: Rev. Mark Carter, (Wendy), of FL and Scott Carter (Michelle) of Street, MD; great grandchildren: Evan Carter (Jessica) of St. Petersburg, FL and Megan Carter of St. Petersburg, FL.

Special mention to her niece, Patti Maloney who cooked special Italian dishes from Rose’s father’s recipes, along with her own recipes weekly. Rose enjoyed these and they brought back wonderful memories and she looked forward to Patti’s dinners and her visits.

Also, special mention to her brother Larry’s companion, Bill Pearson who called daily to check on Rose and would talk for hours, and she looked forward to his calls, and always put a smile on her face.

A Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Tuesday September 15, 2026.
