Ronald “Ronnie” Charles Hastings, age 77, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. He was born on February 28, 1949, in Delmar, MD to the late Billy Hastings and Betty (Carey) Hastings.
Upon graduation from Laurel High School, Ronnie joined the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Ronnie went on to earn a degree in drafting from Delaware Technical Community College and joined the DuPont Corporation. While working, he earned his degree in architecture from Drexel University and became licensed to practice. Over the course of his 35-year career with DuPont, Ronnie traveled the globe designing buildings. After retiring, Ronnie continued his love of architecture in private practice, designing homes and small businesses.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shelley (Parsons) Hastings; children: Eli Hastings and his wife, Lauren, and Daisy Shook and her husband, Chris; grandchildren: Emmett Hastings, Fiona Hastings, Emma Shook, and Weston Shook; and siblings: Alvin Hastings, Kenneth Hastings and Cindy Hughes. In addition to his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Skitch Hastings.
Ronnie enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, playing poker with his friends, spending time in Bethany Beach, watching the Philadelphia Eagles, and going out to dinner with friends and family. Ronnie lived with Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 20 years and advocated for research. He decided to donate his body to the University of Delaware for this cause.
