Ronald “Ronnie” Charles Hastings

February 28, 1949 - May 20, 2026

Upon graduation from Laurel High School, Ronnie joined the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War. Ronnie went on to earn a degree in drafting from Delaware Technical Community College and joined the DuPont Corporation. While working, he earned his degree in architecture from Drexel University and became licensed to practice. Over the course of his 35-year career with DuPont, Ronnie traveled the globe designing buildings. After retiring, Ronnie continued his love of architecture in private practice, designing homes and small businesses.

Ronnie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shelley (Parsons) Hastings; children: Eli Hastings and his wife, Lauren, and Daisy Shook and her husband, Chris; grandchildren: Emmett Hastings, Fiona Hastings, Emma Shook, and Weston Shook; and siblings: Alvin Hastings, Kenneth Hastings and Cindy Hughes. In addition to his parents, Ronnie is preceded in death by his son, Matthew Skitch Hastings.

Ronnie enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, playing poker with his friends, spending time in Bethany Beach, watching the Philadelphia Eagles, and going out to dinner with friends and family. Ronnie lived with Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 20 years and advocated for research. He decided to donate his body to the University of Delaware for this cause. Dear Shelly, Sending my deepest sympathy in the loss of Ronnie. My late husband and I met you both at a get together at the Hertzler residence one summer, and later Lenny let us know that Ron could help us out with the addition we were planning. Ronnie designed the addition to our home in Wilmington in 2012 and construction started the following year. Ron did an amazing job and were were so thankful to have met him.

I am so sorry to hear this. I worked with/for Ron at DuPont in the Project Engineering Center in downtown Wilmington. He was such a good guy - one of my favorites. As administrative assistant to the group he made my life so much easier with his willingness to help out. If someone in the group owed me a report or the like Ron would say “don’t worry I’ll go see him/ her about it” without hesitation. I could always count on him. My sincere condolences to his family. I know he’ll be greatly missed.

Shelly, Condolences to you and the family. We had some good times coming out of LHS in 1967. It has been some time since I last saw Ronnie, but it was almost as though time had been still. Another of the good guys has left us, sadly.

So very sorry about his passing. I know we all who knew him are very pleased we can call him a friend and are better people for having known him and his entire family. We do believe he made the world a better place while he was here.

Ron wasn't with us very long at Rock Steady Boxing Cornerstone, but he left an impression! He came and worked so very hard- did everything we asked of him with a smile on his face and a positive attitude. He was sweet and funny and kind. We will miss him dearly. Our thoughts are with Shelley and family 💗
