Roma Mary Joyce Renick Prouty, of Elkton MD, sadly passed away peacefully and with family by her bedside, on February 1 2017. She was born March 6 1946 in Hubli India to the late Leonard John Renick and Dora (Calasso) Renick.
Roma had lived a wonderful life which had stretched across three different continents. Firstly born in India, then raising a family in the United Kingdom, remarrying in Germany and finally settling in the USA. Along her journeys she learned many languages including French, Spanish and German. Roma had a lifelong career in Finance as an Accountant, Advisor and Booking Keeping and was employed at financial and shipping institutions in the United Kingdom and at American Army Bases, both in Germany and USA. She was passionate about cooking; a self-taught chef in her own right, she was gifted with making dishes taste delicious. Nothing pleased her more than to cook for the family she loved. Anglo Indian cuisine was her forte, along with her famous pickle canning, using vegetables lovingly cultivated in her own garden and sending them to her family all over the world. Her garden was her sanctuary, always starting from scratch she grew it into the beautiful place where she and Joel spent many joyful hours together, tending to her flowers and vegetables.
Roma is survived by her husband Joel J Prouty. Her son Peter Charles Philip Cowie and wife Natalie of Essex UK. Her Daughter Tina Mary Leah Newnes and husband Craig of Essex UK. Her daughter Maria Ann Cowie and boyfriend Whitney Dahlin of Corona Del Mar CA. She is also survived by her granddaughter Isla Rose Cowie.
A church service will be held for Roma, on Saturday April 29th at 11.00am, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 452 East Bow Street, Elkton MD 21921.
Reception for family and friends will follow the service to further celebrate and share memories of Roma’s life at the Prouty Home, 8 Dill Court, Elkton, MD 21921 – Phone 443-406-7807.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution checks can be made to “Longwood Gardens” and sent c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921

I worked with Mr. Joel Prouty and first met his darling wife Roma at one of our company Christmas parties. Roma was instantly warm and welcoming to me. She was so funny and loved making jokes and being silly. She reminded me of my grandma and I instantly felt comfortable with her. From that moment on, I always looked forward to any party or event to see Roma and spend time catching up with her. I always admired the love that was so evident between Mr. Joel and Roma, like how he always referred to Roma as his bride. Roma had an uncanny ability to make even strangers feel like family. It is truly rare in life to meet people like Roma, who are so vibrant, joyful, and full of life. Ms. Roma had the kind of larger-than-life personality that stuck with you and made her so memorable.
