Rodney Robert Correll, 68, of Newcastle, Delaware, passed away peacefully at his home on September 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 16, 1955, in Wilmington, Delaware, Rod was the cherished son of the late Richard Calvin Correll, Sr., and Laura Jane (née Reed) Correll.
Rod was a proud graduate of Christiana High School, Class of 1973, where he played on the tennis team and then briefly played football before an injury ended his time on the field. He continued his education at the University of Delaware, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1979 taking a few gap years to travel across country and Europe staying at youth hostels. While at the university, he was a member of the Blue Hen Men’s Tennis Team. Following his academic pursuits, Rod built a successful career in the Home Furnishings Industry, beginning at Levitz Furniture and later concluding his career at American Signature Furniture. Rod made many lifelong friends through his working years and was briefly retired at his passing.
Rod had a deep passion for golf and enjoyed swimming to stay fit. He was an Eagles Football fan and loved the game. Family recall fond memories of playing back-yard football with neighbors and family. Other passions growing up were chess, tennis, pool, ping pong and frisbee. In later years, Rod developed a passion studying the stock market and day trading. His family will fondly remember his knack for choosing the most perfect Christmas gifts from Boscov’s, always ensuring they were beautifully wrapped. Known for his fun dry sense of humor, Rod’s presence brought joy and laughter to those around him.
Rod was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Correll, Jr. He is survived by his two devoted sisters, Robin Correll Griffin and Laurie L. Riley and her husband Gregory, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins who will all remember him fondly and feel his loss deeply.
A celebration of Rod’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 12:00 PM at the R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, located at 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE. Friends and family are invited to gather beginning at 11:00 AM. Rod will be laid to rest at Newark Cemetery.
