Robert E. Spear (66) of Lewes, DE passed away on January 10, 2023. Born in Wilmington, DE on September 19, 1956, he was the son of the late Robert E. and Marge L. (nee, Hicks) Spear.

Before he retired, Bob worked for General Motors for 30 years, where he gained the nickname Bolo, before retiring as a Line Assembly Forman. In his youth he enjoyed dancing and was active in sports. He ran Cross Country Track in High School. Throughout his life he remained an avid sports fan. His favorite teams were the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens Football Team, Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He loved fishing and crabbing and anything to do with the beach. To his family and friends, he was known for his playful sense of humor, innovative handyman skills and sage advice. Bob was a great cook and could whip up a mean Breakfast. Spending time with family and taking his “Grand-Dog” to the “Arena” brought him the greatest joy and the biggest smiles. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his mother and father, he is preceded in death by his sister Crystal Spear.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Heather Fields (Daniel); siblings: Roy Hankinson, Sharron Clark (Bob), Robbinn Ferguson (Bill), Kathy Burr (Jeff); a host of nieces and nephews; life-long -friend, John Bromwell, Sr. and former wife and partner Elaine Spear.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, at 11:30 AM at the R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home – 122 West MainStreet, Newark, DE. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:30 AM.
