Robert C. Lucas, 71, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away August 20, 2013 at Heartland Hospice House in Wilmington, DE.

Surviving are his son, Lawrence D. Lucas and his wife Christine of Rising Sun,and grandson Cal Robert Lucas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elayne J. Lucas who died in 2002.

According to his wishes, services are private. Memorial contribution checks may be made to the Cecil County SPCA and mailed to the funeral home.

I didn't know Bob well, he was a friend of my sister Martha Apostolec who lived with him and took care of him for some time. In 2006 Bob was gracious enough to allow my family to hold a celebration of what would have been my Mother's 100th birthday. He allowed 11 total strangers to invade his home, and treated us like family. "A very special man". My deepest sympathies go out to his sister Janet and brother Rick. Rest in Peace Bob.

Bob and I were close friends and companions from 2006-2009. We remained friends after I moved out of state. He was a very generous and giving man, and was completely in love with my border collie, Misty. I remember all the mama cats and their kittens that Bob and I took care of at his home. He loved animals very much and could never turn away a stray. I will miss him very much, as will his sister Janet Lucas, and his brother Ricky Lucas in Bakersfield CA. Be at peace my friend. Marti

I met your Dad over 11 years ago when he purchased Cemetery Lots and I helped with your moms service. My sympathy goes out to you and your family and you will be in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you
