Robert Bruce Johnson, Jr. (65) of Middletown, DE passed away at his home on June 8, 2022. Born in Wilmington, DE on January 14, 1957, he was the son of Eris Johnson (nee, Kimmey) and the late Robert Johnson, Sr.
Bruce graduated from Delcastle Technical High School in 1975 in the automotive vocational program. One of Bruce’s stated goals as a young man, was to, “pay off his home early and buy lots of cars.” He began his career as an auto service technician taking a position at Mitchell’s Arco. Later, he went on to Motorama Sales before spending over 20 years working for the New Castle County Government. He had an outstanding reputation for repairing and maintaining the New Castle County motor vehicle fleet from police squad cars to emergency service vehicles, he kept them all in tiptop working order.
Bruce was a diehard motorhead. One of his favorite stories he shared was racing his first car, a Ford Fairlane, at the Cecil County drag way. Other pastimes from his youth include many adventures saltwater fishing, camping, hunting and attending drive-in movie theaters or amusement parks. Bruce had a fondness for animals. Over the years, he owned a variety of unusual pets including big dogs, ferrets, snakes, tarantulas, and lionfish. Bruce also enjoyed spending time with his family at his home away from home in Buttonwood Beach. Bruce was a fan of a Sunday drive, preferably on 2 wheels. He cherished his motorcycles, namely the Honda Gold Wing and Harley V-Rod. You could often hear him before you saw him. He was always listening to loud Rock & Roll, especially Jimi Hendrix. Bruce was very bright, often stubborn and always had a good sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bruce is survived by his daughter, Jessica Wieser (Eddie); grandson, Sawyer Wieser; mother, Eris Johnson; brothers: David Johnson (Robin) and Keith Johnson; sister, Diane Koehler (Jeff).
A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 11AM at the R. T. Foard Funeral Home 318 George St, Chesapeake City, MD 21915. The family will begin receiving friends at 10AM. To leave online condolences go to www.rtfoard.com.
