Robert (“Bobby”) William Dollenger Jr.

May 1, 1960 - October 1, 2020

Robert (“Bobby”) William Dollenger, Jr., 60, of Elkton, MD, began the celebration of his new life with Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 1, 2020. Robert was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle and great uncle to his family always remaining firm in his religious beliefs and put God, his country, and family first in every choice he ever made. Robert served as a CPL in the United States Marine Corps where he earned the Sharpshooter Rifle Badge and trained as an Engineer Equipment Operator. Robert ran a successful excavation business for over twenty-five years known as Jesnelle Excavating. He was currently employed by Amtrack where he continued his life career.

Robert was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Adolph Frederick and Elsie Mae Dollenger, his maternal grandparents, Henry Fulton and Virgie Victoria Hayden, his father, Robert William Dollenger, Sr. and his brothers, Richard Wayne Dollenger and Mark Henry Dollenger.

Robert is survived by his mother, Helen Marie Dollenger, his sisters, Betty, and her husband, Kenneth Van Stedum and Arlene, and her husband, Jerry Bryson, his daughters, Jessica, and her husband, Kevin Stickler and Janelle, and her husband, Aaron Wynn, his nephews, Thomas, and his wife, Angela Bryson and Craig, and his wife, Amanda, Bryson, his nieces, Kelly, and her husband, Gabriel Rodgers and Stephanie, and her husband, Nathan Woody and many great nephews and great nieces. In addition, Robert is survived by many “like family” friends.

A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family followed by a celebration of life service is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 1, 2021.

His friends and family have certainly lost a good and patient man. Our sole condolence is that all that knew him trust he is with his savior.

I'm not sure what to say, I graduated high school with Bobby and we both joined Rising Sun Fire Company at 16 years old. I would stay at his house sometimes, because it was closer to the firehouse and we could make the first engine. His family was very close to me when I was a friend of Bobby way back when! We both joined the military at a young age and kind of went our separate ways, but I'll never forget those early years helping the community together in the local fire company. I'll pray for the family in this difficult time and god bless each of you.

I was delighted to hear about Bob's life and his achievements. I was honored to be at his funeral and wish his family peace and comfort in the days and months to come.

When Robert E. Lee assumed the presidency of Washington College in Lexington, VA, his first task was to develop a new code of conduct for his students. Ultimately when he first met his students he told them that the new code of conduct for the college is "That all of you be gentlemen first, foremost, and always. A gentleman does not lie, he does not steal, does not cheat, nor does he tolerate anyone who does." Lee would have been proud to call Bob one of his students as Bob epitomized all of those characteristics inherent in a gentleman. Deo vindice, my friend, and you will always be remembered.

It is with a very heavy heart to hear about Bobby. This was a total shock, it wasn't that long ago I talk with via Bill Meehan. I feel for my brother in arms and I thank him for his service to his country. May he rest in peace!

We were so saddened when we heard Bobby had left us. He was a great guy, always positive and willing to give a helping hand. Sending prayers, I love you guys. Please let me know if you need anything.

I am so sad hearing that Bob died. We talked on the phone about everything under the sun. We were friends through SCV and Facebook but unfortunately, never got to meet in person. My heart goes out to all of the family as I hope that Gods grace will give you strength during your time of grieving. Such a sweet man!
