Robert “Bob” Conway, Sr., 76, of Newark, DE passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at his home.
Born January 7, 1939 in Wilmington, DE, Bob was the son of the late Reginald and Ann (Barrow) Conway. Bob graduated from Newark High school, class of 1957, where he was an All-State Quarterback. Following high school, he went on to play in the minor leagues for the Phillies. Bob coached football for over 30 years, coaching for the former Capital Trail Football League. In his spare time he loved to play golf and watch Sunday football games. He also enjoyed spending summers at Fenwick Island, eating crabs and having an “ice cold beer”.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Conway; daughter, Cherie Hansard and her husband, Darrell of Gainesville, GA; son, Robert Conway, Jr. and his wife, Linda of Newark, DE; grandchildren, Katie and Kellie Conway and Matt, Wesley, and Austin Hansard; and one great granddaughter. Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Truitt.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the VFW Post 475 Honor Guard Detail.
