Richard (Dick) Grohs, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law in Poquoson, VA. He was 87 years old.
Dick was born on May 5, 1934 in Waterloo, IA to the late Rudolf and Helen Grohs. He resided in Newark, DE for over 60 years and enjoyed spending time with his children in Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Dick met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Grohs, while attending Kings College in Delaware. They were married on April 14, 1954. Dick was a licensed electrician and worked for over 30 years for the family business, Galloway Electric. Subsequently, he worked for DuPont for 15 years.
Always a positive person with a contagious smile, Dick loved to be surrounded by family and friends. His strong faith and trust in God set an example for all. Dick served as a deacon at Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark and enjoyed serving as a member of their choir. His love of sports spanned his entire life and he was able to excel in every sport he played. His particular love of golf provided him with years of enjoyment. Later in life Dick enjoyed spending time meeting and exercising with friends in both Delaware and Virginia.
Dick was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty, and will be greatly missed by his loving family; son Rich Grohs, and his wife, Deb, of Poquoson, VA; daughters, Cheryl Warrington of Langhorne, PA and Linda Burke, and her husband, Don, of Langhorne, PA; six grandchildren, J.r (Heidi), Kristin (Kevin), Josh (Mandie), Jake (Courtney), Ryan (Elora) and Daniel; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Ellen Grohs and Mary (Roger) Wheeler, both of Waterloo, IA.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 9:30 to 10:30AM at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Newark, 308 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE. A memorial service will begin at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at Head of Christiana Presbyterian Cemetery in Newark, DE.
