

Richard Leon Smith, Jr., aged 68, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023. He was born on May 13, 1955, in Philadelphia, PA, and was the loving son of the late Carol (nee, Molter) and Richard Leon Smith, Sr. Richard was the devoted husband of 43 years to Susan Harding Smith.
Throughout his career, Richard dedicated his skills to the family business – W. F. Smith Inc, Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors. The firm, established by his father and uncles in 1946 after his service in the US Navy and Coast Guard during WWII, held a special place in his heart. Richard was also a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union, Local 19.
Outside of work, Richard found joy in boating and fishing on the Chesapeake Bay. He had a passion for British Sports Cars, and his beloved Triumph TR6 was a testament to his love of tinkering and driving. Richard was a history buff with a particular interest in the history of WWII, paying tribute to “The Greatest Generation.”
In his younger days, Richard was an avid Pinball player and a lifelong Phillies Fan. To his family and numerous friends, he was known as a large, jolly man who brought laughter to their lives. His warm presence and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Susan Harding Smith; his son, Richard Leon Smith, III; his daughter, Lauren Dare Rosenberg, and her husband Adam; his grandson, Henry Rosenberg, and his brother, Stephen F. Smith, along with a multitude of friends.
A Graveside service to honor Richard’s life is scheduled for Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Whitemarsh Memorial Park, 1169 Limekiln Pike, Ambler, PA.
