Richard John Hartman, 73, of Colora, MD passed away Sunday, January 18, 2015 after a long illness.
Born July 23, 1941 in Omaha, NE, Richard was the son of the late William and Mary (Wiater) Hartman. He retired from the USN holding the rank of E7 as a Chief Operations Specialist where he proudly served for 22 years. He was a Vietnam veteran who received the National Defense Service medal, 2 Vietnam service medals, and the Armed Services Expeditionary medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post 194. After his military career, Richard went on to work for the Ford Motor Company which he enjoyed very much.
Richard loved spending time at home feeding and watching the animals and birds in the yard. He also enjoyed gardening, playing the lottery, and going to the casino. He was an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Orioles, and NASCAR. However, what Richard cherished most was spending time with his wonderful family and his time spent with his wife, Marcie. He especially enjoyed taking his family out and treating them to breakfast and Maryland crabs.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Marcella J. Hartman of Colora, MD; daughters, Susan Lanphier of Rocky Hill, CT and Kathleen Goyette of Manchester, NH; brothers, Robert Hartman of NE and Raymond Hartman of North Bend, NE; sisters, Mary Lou Prokop of Omaha, NE and Barbara Mottl of Lincoln, NE. He was blessed with “whatchamacallit” 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Betty; brother, William; and his beloved dog, Molly.
A celebration of life will be held in Richard’s honor which will be determined at a later date. There will be no viewing hours per his request. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made payable to the American Legion Post 194 and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.
