Richard “Rick” Eric du Pont

Richard Eric du Pont, age 77 of Georgetown, MD passed away on June 9, 2026. He was born on February 5, 1949 in Peterborough, NH to the late Samuel Francis du Pont and Joanne Eleanor (Smith) du Pont.

Rick was raised on his family’s farm in Cecil County, MD and, during his early life, developed an appreciation for hard work, the outdoors, and the values of community and service. The lessons he learned growing up on the farm remained with him throughout his life.

He served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving his community, earning the respect of his colleagues and the citizens he served through his professionalism, commitment, and steady presence.

Outside of work, Rick engaged in many pursuits. Among them, he enjoyed spending time on the water, whether boating with his father or simply enjoying time with his family at the pool. He was also an avid motorcycle enthusiast. Rick enjoyed playing competitive pool, where his skill, focus, and friendly competitive spirit were well known.

Rick is survived by his son, Richard Samuel du Pont and his wife, Jennifer; granddaughters: Ashlynde Lewis and Analeigh du Pont; brothers John du Pont and Pierre “Pete” du Pont, and sisters, Diane Beck and Catharine Varacchi.

Services for Rick will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
