Richard B. (Dick) White, 83 of Signal Mountain, TN, formerly of Wilmington, DE, passed away on June 7, 2012 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, TN.
Born on May 20, 1929 in Wilmington, Dick was the son of the late Theodore B. and Elsa Virginia Karlberg White. He graduated from Conrad High School and attended The Wharton School of Business and the University of Delaware. Dick retired from J.A. Montgomery Insurance Company. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dick was a member of the Delaware Air National Guard and the Delaware National Guard 198th Field Artillery Branch as well as a member of LT. J. Allison O’Daniel Post #10 (Newark). He was also a lifetime member of the Glasgow Lions Club. Dick was proud of being awarded the honorary title of ‘Kentucky Colonel’. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening with a passion. A true patriot, Dick was a student of history and was thought of as an historian. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy S. White of Signal Mountain, TN; a son, Theodore (Ted) B. White and his wife Ann Louise of Elkton, MD; two daughters, Kristine (Kris) J. Serio and her husband John of Wilmington, DE and Katryn (Katie) W. Hutton and her husband Lee of Chesapeake City, MD; three brothers, Carl White of Fripp Island, SC, A.Paul White of Wilmington, DE and C. Coleman White of Fripp Island, SC; and a grandson John Weatherlow of Bear, DE. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane F. White, a daughter Suzanne Weatherlow, a brother Theodore W. White and a sister, Joanne L. (Nan) White.
A service honoring his life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 2 South Augustine Street, Newport, DE 19804 on Friday June 15, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery following the service.
