Richard Byrd Lucas, 81, a lifelong resident of Rising Sun, MD, passed away suddenly December 7, 2012.
Born on December 23, 1930, Richard was the son of the late Oliver and Mary Wilson Lucas. He was a graduate of Rising Sun High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Conrail as an engineer. He was a founding member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and was devoted to his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Minnie Lucas; two sons, Richard B. Lucas Jr. and his wife Jennifer and James N. Lucas and his wife Sharon, both of Rising Sun; four grandchildren, Bart, Brian, Ashley and Austin; and two great grandchildren, Nathan and Chase; and a brother, Jack Lucas. He was preceded in death by his four brothers and his sister.
A service honoring his life will be held at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 35 Sylmar Road, Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Wednesday December 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the church Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm or one hour prior to the service.
