Raymond Henry Schmidt, 55, of North East, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on July 7, 1971, Ray was the cherished son of George Schmidt and the late Elva Mae Schmidt (née Hoogerwerff), and the devoted husband of Stefanie Schmidt (née Webb).
Ray worked as a skilled forklift operator in the warehouse at IKEA, where he was a valued member of a close-knit team as well as a Shop Steward with IAM. He took pride in his work and earned the respect and friendship of his coworkers.
Ray found happiness on the water, especially during the time he spent in Cape May and Ocean City. An avid fisherman, he treasured the many days spent fishing with his son, Raymond, whom he lovingly called his “Little Buddy.” Those moments together created memories that will be cherished forever.
A passionate Harley Davidson motorcycle and Philadelphia sports fan, Ray loyally followed the Eagles, Phillies and the Flyers. St. Patrick’s Day was another special part of his life and family traditions. He embraced the holiday with enthusiasm and a wonderful sense of humor, even occasionally dyeing his beard to match the colors of the Irish flag.
Above all, Ray will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was their rock—the person they could always count on and the one whose love provided comfort and security through every season of life.
Ray will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Stefanie Schmidt; his son, Raymond Schmidt II; his brothers, George (Jodi) Schmidt Jr., Brian (Maryanna) Schmidt, and John (Nicci) Schmidt; cousin, Gary Russell, his good friend, Donnell Mitchell; and many extended family members and dear friends.
A celebration of Ray’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at R. T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, Maryland. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
A reception celebrating Ray’s life and legacy will be held afterward at the R. T. Foard Life Event Center.
