Rachel Catherine Cowan, 96, of Colora, MD, passed away peacefully April 23, 2014 at Lorien Healthcare in Havre de Grace.
Born on May 11, 1917, Rachel was the daughter of the late James and Rachel Boyd McFadden. Rachel was a registered Nurse and trained in Middletown, NY. She practiced nursing for a time at Harford Memorial Hospital and then married Fred M. Cowan in 1939. A true product of the American Century, Rachel lived and raised her family in Colora. She loved all God’s creatures, especially her cats and was devoted to her husband and her family.
Rachel is survived by her son Fred M. Cowan, Jr., of Colora; a daughter Marilyn Ciufo and her husband Lenny of Darlington; three grandchildren, Heather, Rhonda and Rachel and 6 great grandchildren, Declan, Dominick, Anthony, Jacquelyn, Gabrielle and Mason; a brother Raymond McFadden and a sister, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Cameron. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Cowan, Sr. and her son James R. Cowan and 11 brothers and sisters.
A service honoring her life will be held on Monday April 28, 2014 at 12 noon at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, DM 21911 with a visitation beginning at 11 am. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery. In honor of Rachel’s passing the family asks you do something kind for someone you love.
