Providenza “Prudie” M. Hansen, of Newark, Delaware passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 at the age of 89. She was born in Detroit, MI on October 13, 1927, to the late Samuel and Eva (Aiello) Minore who were both registered pharmacists with the State of Michigan.
Prudie attended grade and high schools in the Detroit area. She continued on to graduate with a teaching degree in 1952 from Mercy College, MI and took some extended courses through the University of Detroit, MI. Prudie taught lower grade school in suburban areas around the Detroit area. Upon moving to Delaware, she taught grade school and worked at Strawbridge & Clothier prior to its closing at the Christiana Mall in Delaware.
Prudie was married in 1953 to Wallace H. Hansen and soon began her life as a full time mother of five children: Christopher, Gregory, Karen, Arlene and Sue. While in college Prudie became interested in the Catholic Church and became a devoted member with very strong Catholic beliefs and followings.
Prudie enjoyed her cats, Cinder, Sebastian, Mimi & Princess and dogs, Ginger, Lady & Capone. She was happy traveling and sharing time, over 62 years, with her husband, Wallace. During that time both Prudie and Wallace were members of the Delaware Saengerbund as well as the German Club of Dover, Delaware. Prudie was primarily a homemaker and enjoyed her five children and three granddaughters very much. Her love of children and animals was always her greatest pleasure.
Prudie is survived by her two sons: Chris Hansen and wife, Chong, of Laurel, MD and Greg Hansen of Newark, DE; three daughters: Karen Schiller and husband, Victor of Bluffton, SC, Arlene Seppanen of Wilmington, DE and Sue Wilcox, and husband, Gary, of Wilmington, DE; three granddaughters, Kristen Schiller McMullen, and husband, Michael, of Charleston, SC, Jessica Seppanen, of Wilmington, DE, and Jennifer Seppanen, and her boyfriend, Adam Meadows, of Wilmington, DE.
In addition to her parents & sister, Marianna Yesh of Dearborn MI, Prudie is preceded in death by her loving husband, Wallace H. Hansen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9AM on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Avenue, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may begin visiting at 8AM. Burial will follow the at the Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
