Peter “The Kid” David Lavelle, age 56, of Newark, DE died Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in Lexington, VA. He is returned to his beloved Newark for burial.
Pete was born January 26, 1966 in Newark, DE, the youngest son of the late M. Irene and Robert Lavelle.
Pete was a man born 100 years too late. He loved all of the “old school” ways of life. He could fix almost anything as long as it did not involve a computer. He could take random, junk car parts and create a functioning vehicle. He was also a gifted carpenter who learned carpentry from his brother Bob. Pete and Bob framed many a house together. Pete spent his final days in the last house he built on a mountain in Lexington, VA.
Pete was a wandering soul, always on the move, but along the way he was always ready to lend a hand, whether it was to fix a car, rescue a dog, build a pen, mend a fence, put up siding, renovate a space, or hand out bread and sandwiches. He made friends with strangers, having a glimmer in his eyes that made others smile and feel at ease. He was always ready to listen the stories of others and their life struggles, and he was known to throw back a few beers.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, Richard and Robert Lavelle. Surviving, are his former wife and partner Carla Reeves and step-daughter Jordan Armour, who he loved dearly; his brothers: Walter of SC, Andrew of Bear; sister Jane Edgar of Swansea, IL; 4 nephews and nieces; Drew and Charles Lavelle, Heather Hough and Christina Longo.
His family will hold a graveside service at 11 am on Friday, April 15, at Newark Cemetery, 20 New Street, Newark, DE 19711.
