Paul is survived by his wife, Emily McCullough White of Newark, DE, her son Matthew Voorhees and four children from a previous marriage (Jennifer): Abigail (Andrew) Bernard; Jeremy (Samantha); Dickon (Leanne) and Annabelle (Alex) Williams and nine grandchildren.
Paul grew up at the height of WWII in London and was one of the millions of children in England who, along with his older sister Sonya, was evacuated from British cities in what was dubbed “Operation Pied Piper”. Following the war, he attended The Marlborough School, and served the UK in the British Army, prior to graduating from Cambridge University with a degree in electrical engineering in 1954.
Paul’s career as an Engineer was diverse and stimulating, including Rolls Royce, Courtaulds , and ultimately as a research scientist with the Formica Corporation. He received international recognition for his work following his transfer to the Cincinnati office in 1979 and later earned an MBA in 1981 from the University of Cincinnati.
Paul retired in 1995 and moved with Emily to Rhode Island. Paul’s focus in retirement included singing in the church choir with Emily, and renovating a 1893 cottage in the lovely and quiet New England village of Wickford. Upon the retirement of Emily, they moved to Newark, DE in 2010. Further in retirement, Paul and Emily enjoyed travel, including many trips to Italy, visiting his children, grandchildren and sister in England, long-time family friends, Ann and Hugh Harvey in NY and Emily’s son, in Washington, DC. Paul remained active in the church, focusing his passion on environmental issues, including climate change.
Paul was a gentleman and a gentle man who was admired by everyone who ever met him. His mark on the communities where he lived, and those that loved him, will never be forgotten.
