







































































































































Paul Charles “Dutch” VanVechten, Sr., age 73, of Newark, DE, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017. He was born in Wilmington, DE, on August 25, 1943 to the late Charles Henry and Muriel Zelma Gifford VanVechten.
Paul worked 33 years on the assembly lines at the Newark Chrysler Plant, from which he retired. He served his country in the Army both active and inactive duty, as well as the Delaware Air National Guard for almost ten years. A motorcycle enthusiast, Paul enjoyed riding and owned several different bikes over the years. His hobbies included building model airplanes and cars. He also had a passion for trains from which he set up his own train layout. Paul loved the movies, and would attend with the family the latest action, comedy, or super hero movie that was playing in the theatres. He loved fast cars and attended races at local venues such as Cecil County Drag way, and watched NASCAR on the television cheering his favorite driver, Bill Elliott. An avid football fan, Paul was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and also held season football tickets at the University of Delaware.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Katherine “Kitten” VanVechten; his sons, Stephen and wife Rhonda, of Bear, DE, and Paul C. II, and his wife, Lisa, of New Castle, DE; daughter, Katrina Haynie, of Leesburg, FL; sisters, Virginia Miller, and her husband, Jacob, of Newark, DE, and Linda Sanderson, of Newark, DE; and brother, Preston Baynum, of St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE 19701. Friends and family may meet at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 at 9AM to go in procession.
