Oscar “Clem” Clement Fowler, Jr., age 83, of Newark, DE, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024. He was born on October 24, 1940 in Wilmington, DE to the late Oscar Clement Fowler, Sr. and Hope Helen Powell. Growing up, Clem was raised by his loving aunt and uncle, Ruth and Ewell “Buck” Buckingham in Newark, DE.
Clem had many joys in his life. He loved the game of baseball so much he not only was a coach for the MOT Little League, but a head umpire as well. Clem carried on his passion for the game later in life as he played Big Ball with his close friends. He also coached and mentored kids in Capital Trail Junior Football League for 25 years. When he wasn’t involved with coaching, you could find Clem at any local diner. He truly loved Smiley’s Diner, where he would catch up with his Newark Yellow Jacket pals. Clem proudly served our country in the United States Army directly out of high school; 1958 to his honorable discharge in 1964. He began his almost 4 decades at Delmarva Power and Light as a custodian and then Easily made the change to a Lineman, risking his life every day to ensure Delaware and the greater eastern shore always had their electricity needs met! He finished out his career at the DP&L as a site safety supervisor, where he was, as always, tough but fair. Known for being a stickler for the rules, but fair and helpful to everyone. Out of everything in life, Clem’s greatest gift were his children, Brandy, Luke and Katie. Also close to his heart was “adopted daughter” Tracy Clore.
Clem is survived by his three children: Katharine Fowler, Lucas Fowler Sr., and Christa “Brandy” Fowler; two grandchildren, Sierra Marino and Lucas Fowler, Jr.; their mother, his ex-wife Kristine Fowler, with whom he remained great friends; two siblings, Charlotte Fowler and Floyd “Buddy” Fowler. In addition to his parents, aunt and uncle, Clem is preceded in death by his sister, Sandy Fowler.
A celebration of Clem’s life will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 11:30AM at R.T. Foard and Jones, Inc, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may begin visiting at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at Delaware Veteran Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
